CHERISHED MAMA PRENATAL YOGA
As a proud mother, Vanya is extremely passionate about the benefits of prenatal yoga and attributes yoga to making pregnancy one of the most blissful times in her life. She is also founder and director of Cherished Mama Prenatal Yoga Program, which celebrates pregnancy as a sacred rite of passage in a woman’s life. Through breath control (pranayama), meditation, and yoga postures (asanas) women are encouraged to tap into their body’s innate wisdom about pregnancy and childbirth. With these tools, women can and do experience increased self-awareness while feeling empowered to listen to their body, both on and off the mat. Holistic wellness is also an integral part of the Cherished Mamas Prenatal Yoga experience. It includes childbirth and holistic nutrition education.
This class is designed to deepen a woman’s connection to herself and her baby, while toning and firming the body in preparation for labor and birth. It provides much needed relaxation and restoration, and can help relieve some of the physical discomforts of pregnancy. Moms-to-be also experience a sense of community and support, while celebrating this unique time in their lives. No previous yoga experience required. Vanya’s prenatal yoga classes have been such an amazing experience for me, and have really played a big part in my pregnancy. My experience with Vanya as my prenatal instructor was AMAZING and heaven-sent. I began prenatal yoga around 18 weeks into my pregnancy and practiced 2 times a week. She gave me the peace I needed through practice, serenity through her calming voice, and strength coming from one mother to another that whatever choice I make for this baby was perfect for my baby. Unlike many of the other mommies, I was planning to have medical intervention at my birth. And even though Vanya spoke so positively about natural childbirth, she was extremely supportive of my decision – her support meant the world to me during a time that was so stressful for me.
On the day of my daughter’s birth, I used my yoga practice to get me through the pain and nervous energy. Squatting, cooling breaths, and surrendering to the pain were techniques that helped me tremendously to get through the labor. And my labor progressed well – and almost without medication – it was such a beautiful experience that I strongly believe that prenatal yoga prepared me so well! I’m a true believer of the practice!
